Yes. Every family photographer needs a signed contract before every session, and Dubsado makes it simple to store, send, and automate contract signing within your client workflow.
I know contracts can feel intimidating, especially when you are newer to running a business. But having a signed agreement in place before you show up to a session protects both you and your client. Yes. Venmo is not designed for business transactions, and using it to collect session payments creates risk for your business and a less professional experience for your clients.
I am going to be direct about this one: if you are still telling clients to “just Venmo me,” it is time to stop. Just please stop! Venmo’s terms of service are not set up to support business transactions the way a proper invoicing system is. You do not get professional invoices, you do not have a clean payment record for tax season, and your clients do not get the polished booking experience they expect from a professional photographer.
When you set up Dubsado, you can integrate PayPal, Stripe, and Square so clients can pay directly through your invoices. This means every payment is tracked, timestamped, and connected to the correct project in your system. When tax season rolls around, you have a clean record of every invoice and payment, ready to hand off to your accountant or bookkeeper.
