How Trello can better streamline and organize your business by Business sytems educator Dolly DeLong

You guys know I’m all about finding new ways to automate your business, and one of my new favorite tools is Trello.

I’ll be honest – it took me almost three years to start using Trello for my business. That’s not because Trello is difficult to use – it’s because I have major shiny object syndrome and kept getting sidetracked by other automation tools. I know you’re laughing at me – and I’m laughing right there with you.

Let me just tell you: Trello has become a game-changer for my business now that I’m using it the right way. So in today’s blog, I’m breaking down what Trello is and how to get the most out of it for your business.

What is Trello?

At its core, Trello is an incredible project management tool that can help you stay on track with the highest priority projects and keep all your work in one place. I discovered it back at the beginning of 2020 because of the amazing ladies over at Boss Project

Trello is where I have all my unique workflows set up that correspond with my services and products in my own business. I love that Trello is fully customizable. I have my Trello boards set up in a way that makes sense to me, and you could do the same for your business!

How to Use Trello

There’s not necessarily a “right” way to use Trello, but Trello does have some basic principles that work across all users.

  • Boards – Boards are how you organize your work in Trello by categories. You can have boards for each of your projects, boards for different types of work, or even simplify the process altogether and have one master board you keep everything on. The choice is yours!
  • Cards – Cards are where you house all your tasks and projects. I like to use cards to keep all “like” information together in one place. If I have a task to complete, I can put every bit of information I need to complete that task in one place. This helps me save time when I sit down to get a project done because everything is in one place rather than having to look all over the place for work.
  • Power-Ups – Trello comes with lots of built-in power-ups that simplify your work process. A few of my favorites are the “repeat” feature, which automatically repeats cards for tasks that you do on a recurring basis, or the “template” feature which allows you to create cards in a templated format so you don’t have to start from scratch every time. Trello is totally free to use, but when you upgrade to Trello for your Business you get even more features that make it easier to get work done.

Why Automation Changes Your Business

Automation and how to best set up systems of success for your small business is what Dolly DeLong Education is all about (like literally, I am a firm believer that even Muggles can become automating wizards), and that’s because it (automation) changes your business in the best ways.

Automating your business saves you a shocking amount of time in the long run. You’re able to spend more time serving your clients by delivering high-quality work and less time focusing on administrative tasks that don’t move you forward.

Like I have stated, Trello is an incredible tool to automate your business and keep you moving forward towards your goals. When you use these tools outlined in this blog, you’ll be able to get Trello off and running so you can focus on other things that need your attention in your business!

PS – If Trello seems like an overwhelming thing to consider, I want you to know I totally get it. So a couple of weeks ago, I shared my entire system of how I batch content for one month in just three days. And spoiler alert – Trello is a big part of how I batch my content. So if you’re looking to take just a baby step towards systems and automation, you can check that out here.
