Mess-Free Paint Activity For Kids Under 2

Toddler Activities for your little one under 2

Quarantined at home with little ones? Check out this rainy day (mess-free) painting activity which will occupy your toddler’s attention for at least 30 minutes, and bonus: it is creative and colorful!

If you are reading this in real-time we are currently in week 3 of Quarantine (due to the COVID-19 Virus) and if you are a parent with a little one, you will understand that finding things for them to do ESP on a rainy day with literally NOWHERE to go can be a challenge. I have been trying to occupy Blaise’s days with a structured schedule, only because I want him to have a “normal” routine and also so that I can stay sane. One of the activities I look forward to daily is his “art time”. Keep in mind, “art time” is not as exciting as it sounds because I have a 16-month-old with a short attention span. BUT, I have discovered that if I sneak some art into our daily routine and pair it with music…he LOVES it! So, for this rainy day art activity, I knew I didn’t want him to get messy and I knew we couldn’t go outside due to the rain so I put yellow and blue paint into two ziplock bags and taped them to the windows during his nap time. When he woke up, he was super excited to see something “different” and he loved the way the paint felt (aka he loved squishing the paint). He quickly became obsessed with his beach ball too, so that’s why he keeps on playing with his beach ball in the pictures but he kept on walking straight back to the window to touch the paint.

Altogether, this was a quick 20-30 minute “art” activity for him to do. In all realness, he discovered he could rip the paint bags off the window (which he did) and he threw both bags into our fireplace (with the tape). Don’t worry, our fireplace was NOT on, but it did make me laugh (I mean, that is kinda funny to me)! Even though Blaise did eventually destroy this art idea, I may try to do this again when he is a little older (maybe like 18 or 19 months) just to see what his reaction is.

Well anyway, I hope this inspires someone to do a creative “mess-free” painting project with their little one if they are still quarantined in their home OR if they are looking for a rainy day indoor activity!

Thanks for reading everyone! I sincerely hope you are all doing well, and staying safe at home with your little ones! If you are reading this in the future and the COVID-19 virus has passed, then just use this blog post as inspiration for what to do on a rainy day with a toddler!
