Before we dive into this blog post, I want to say a HUGE thank you to Grace Paul Photography who mentored me through my first full family session on film! Each year, I set goals for myself and my business. This year, one of my goals was to start to become more comfortable shooting on my film camera. I absolutely love film photography and I want my images to be timeless and radiant like film images often are. My friend Grace was amazing and helped me through these Murfreesboro family portraits on film and I seriously couldn’t be more grateful. I absolutely love how these images came out and I’m so excited to share them with you today!
I absolutely LOVE film photography. Not only is it beautiful and timeless, but it really forces me to understand how lighting truly works. Film photography is tricker than digital photography. There’s an art to it – a dance, if you will. There’s give and take and you definitely have to know what you’re doing. I never want to become a photographer who shows up and snaps a few portraits and leaves. I want to understand the art I’m creating and bring something to life that will make your family remember those moments for years to come. My ultimate goal is parents tearing up and loving their photos for many, many years!
These family portraits were just so much fun. As a boy mom myself, I could totally appreciate the energy and personalities that came out in these two guys during our photos. The youngest guy was definitely his wild self – but his mom was SO composed and patient. All of the little moments came together and it definitely brought the “lifestyle” feel to our session together. I always want my clients to be relaxed and feel like themselves so we can just enjoy the session together. With photos both indoors and outside, I really got a chance to stretch my new film skills. These Murfreesboro family portraits were totally a dream come true!
